Hello Everyone ~Pleased to Meet You All
Hi everyone,
My name is Gabriel and tomorrow (Oct. 4th) is my birthday. I will be 38 and after many unsuccessful attempts at staying sober, I decided to go 30 days with the aide of an online support group. Tomorrow, I would like to start a blog and share my thoughts and experiences with you all.
In essence, I have found that we (recovering alcoholics/addicts,etc...) all come from the same place; broken-hearted, hurt and trying to figure out where we fit into society. Others have been able to manage a sober life and so I hope to hear and share ideas with all of you.
After keeping a journal for almost a year now, I have gone from drinking everyday to a few binges. Sunday was the last time I had a drink. I counted the number of times I had a drink, since journaling October 15, 2010, and it was 25; a big change from daily escapades of drunkenness. I want that number to be 0 because I recently found out that I have done some minor damage to my liver and feel that I have been given a lot of chances for survival...so I want this time to count.
Best wishes and much success and thanks for having me here,
Gabriel

Thanks for posting. I hope both you and I see marked improvement in our health through this important journey! Look forward to hearing your story. My story is not very exciting right now, I am tired and have a bit of a headache but trying to stay positive! Keep up your good work.
Thanks everyone for your warm welcomes. So far...so good and I have this site to thank for keeping me on the straight and narrow. It feels good to get things out w/o the fear of being judged. Why? Well, because we all share common goals and struggles. I know that you all have been through similar circumstances and so I say best wishes to everyone in trying to stay focused in getting or keeping your lives in order. It can be a tough journey at times but a support system, I feel, is one of the best things I can have at this point in my life. So thank you all again.

Hi Gabriel. Somehow, I missed your first post. It's great to have you here with us. I agree, not feeling alone made all the difference for me. I had no one else in my life to relate to - everyone was a social drinker & didn't get what I was going through.
I hope you're feeling encouraged and filled with hope at your progress so far. I'll have to check out your blog entries. You can do this, Gabriel
