A quick hello from desperation....
Good morning to all,
My name is Matt and this is my first time on this forum. Alcohol has ruined my life over the last two years or so. Im in a new city for work and have very little contacts or support through this. My marriage is hanging on by a thread (and a flimsy thread at that) due to my drinking and I dont know where else to turn.
I have'nt had a drink in seven days now, which is the longest I've gone without in over two years. Feels great but Im not gonna lie, the emotional frailty and physcological rollercoaster is getting out of hand.
I proudly support everyone out there who is trying to get sober, its not easy and its no small feat to attempt. Be strong, be positive, and literally take things one day at a time.

Congratulations - and keep coming back to SR - it has been the best source of help I have ever had - lots of love, wisdom and understanding. I am at 50 days today, so I know how hard it is ....we all do. Good luck - you can do it!!!!

Hi Matt and welcome to the forum!
7 days is a great start - congratulations! It gets better, so just take it one day at a time and keep things as simple/easy as possible for a while. It really does take time to heal and get used to this.

Welcome to the family, Matt. You aren't alone - you have us. SR gave me the encouragement and strength to stop drinking when I came crawling in here 4 yrs. ago. I had been drinking my whole life, and didn't know how to make a move without it.
Seven days is wonderful - and I know how hard those first few are. No matter how strange you feel, it will pass. When you feel anxious you can come here and talk it out. We care about you - and we know you can do this!
