This is going to be hard
I just got on an airplane on my way to Vail for a few days. Its my first sober trip and I'm going with heavy drinkers. The drinking starts on the plane for them I am only a little over a month sober and a nervous wreck. I feel anxious and deprived. I so want to feel peace on this trip and just relax-without alcohol! I will stay close to SR and I could use all the encouragement and support I can get!! I have to turn off my cell phone for takeoff. I will not drink on this plane and I will check this thread when I land. Please help!!
Eliasson - I hope you'll get some words of wisdom to help you through this time! I'll just say, I remember so clearly the feelings of deprivation and resentment I had on my first vaca without alcohol. I'm right there with you in spirit, and I know you can do this.
I didn't drink on that vaca, but was near tears feeling sorry for myself. After my pity party I did get over the intense feelings of missing out on something, & was able to unclench my fists & enjoy my vaca. In the end, I was so thankful to make it over that hurdle. The enjoyment of waking up clearheaded felt so good. The whole vaca experience lasted longer - it didn't blow by in a foggy haze.
I think it's great you are talking about this, & I know you'll be so proud when you return home unscathed. We are with you.

Just take it one moment at a time. Right now, you don't need to pick up a drink. One piece of advice that was given to me when I first started trying to get sober was to tell myself "Later. I'll have one later. Not right now." and kept telling myself "Later" until I was able to just say "Not today."
I'm not sure that going on a drinking trip at 1 month sober is a great idea - you might have to practice saying "No" for a while. "Gee I'd love to go on the trip with you guys but I just can't do it right now. Have a great time!"

Thank you all so very much! I made it thru the flight and then we stopped for dinner on the way to the condo. They drank, I ordered cranberry tonic with a lime. Am now sitting in condo with a cup of tea looking at beautiful mountains. They, of course, are drinking. I'm counting my blessings. Thank you, too, sugah for the list of meetings. It is my plan to make it to at least one while I'm here. I will keep reading and posting throughout my stay. I am blown away and so incredibly grateful for the encouragement and support. I couldn't do this without y'all
