Day 5 - feeling great! After being back out for something like 6 weeks, I'm finally back on the sobriety train! Only on day 5, but I'm feeling really positive. It's really nice to experience stuff without being high all the time. I get to start actually living my life again. Alcohol almost took my life away and weed has kept me from living. Glad to have those influences out of my life. I'm reading 2 really excellent books that I think will help me in my sobriety. One is about accepting and loving yourself and one is sort of relating the 12 steps to Buddhist teachings (I'm not Buddhist, but I'm a big fan of some of the principles). Plus, having a good book to read is a nice way to keep my mind of any cravings or triggers. Just a quick update...! |
Good for you! So glad you've come back from that dark place. :) What are the titles of those books? The Buddhist one sounds right up my alley... |
Congrats! Can you post the titles of the books? I know I'm reading a lot more these days - can't complain about that :) |
Sure! Sorry, I didn't mean to leave that out in the first place :) One is Lovingkindness by Sharon Salzburg...it's about practicing metta meditation and learning to love yourself...slow read (because I want to really take it all in), but fantastic. The other is Mindfulness and the 12 Steps by Therese Jacobs-Stewart. She does a really nice job of addressing each step chapter by chapter and relating it to mindfulness, the 4 noble truths, etc. I got both on Amazon for pretty cheap (I think about $5-$10) |
Thank you, DG! Congrats again—hope you have a wonderful weekend! |
For a good mindfulness read, try "No Matter Where You Go, There You Are" by Jon Kabat-Zinn. It's pretty easy reading. Good Luck! |
Well done, it does get easier, but stay well away from tempting situations. It takes a tiny moment for the door to slam shut in your face again. |
Welcome back... |
