Day 3 sober after 3 years of drinking

Hello - i am a 29 year old guy - who basically started drinking around 3 years ago. For the first 2 years i would have about 2 drinks a day and slightly heavier over the weekends.

Over the past year I have been mixing a half pint of bacardi with diet coke and finishing one within an hour. Every day.

The thought of going sober hit me when I realized I have to do it to succesfully have a kid. As a couple my wife and I have been diagnoised with infertility - and are undergoing IVF treatment. I was shocked to hear how much alcohol impacts male sperm quality.

Its day 3 now - i havent felt anything major except excessive dreaming at night and a few anxious moments.

The labor day weekend is coming up and am getting ready for hanging out with a bunch of friends and am worried that i may slip again.

Any other examples of withdrawal after my volume of drinking? Do you guys feel I can do this?

Welcome, and I'm glad that you're feeling pretty good.

I could not have spent time with people who were drinking, in my early recovery. It never would have worked for me. The stopping drinking is just the beginning, and it's making the lifestyle changes that ensure recovery, that are the hardest things to do.

Yes, you can do it. That day 4 was a killer for me.
But, if you are willing to go to any length to stay sober,
it can be done.

Come here, attend an AA meeting, skip going to your friends if they drink Just my ideas and opinion.
I hope to hear back from you that you made it through the weekend. Good luck!

Best to you.

Welcome...:wavey:

For me to actually quit...I had to want to more than I wanted to drink>

If parenthood is something you and your wife are looking forward to,,,,
then living a sober lifestyle would be a huge benefit to y'all.
I've yet to meet an adult who said how proud and pleased they were that they had drinkers for parents.

Congrats on quitting. Stay strong. Most people have lots of ups and downs. You'll get though them and feel so much better.

I feel proud of myself. All my colleagues and buddies went out for the labor day happy hour - and they couldnt beleive I said no. I am still at work - getting more work done.

I just want this feeling and this encouragement to stick within me forever.

Welcome to SR :)

I absolutely believe you can do it Desion :)

I literally drank all day every day - I'm now sober for 4 years+

I do agree with Anna though - I needed to make lifestyle changes.
I tried living my old drunks life, just staying sober - it didn't work for me.

you'll find a lot of support here :)

Desion - Congratulations on your decision to get sober, and of course you can do it.

I drank round the clock in the final days of my drinking career, but I got off it thanks to the support & encouragement I found here. I never needed it the way I thought I did - it's so much better to be free.

We look forward to hearing how it's going for you.
