Worried

hey all

C from the UK here. Been looking at the site and reading the forums.

Its nearly 24.00 here and I have been out during the day. On the way home stopped off and bought some drink.

I am worried i may be getting into trouble. Think its the loneliness and boredom so drink to cheer up but then feel depressed the following day.

I have no excuse really , good job etc etc.

Worried it will effect my work as i also drink during the week.

Enough of my rant be well all.

C

Hello, C. I drank for similar reasons: boredom and loneliness. At one time, it actually did cheer me up, but that was a long time ago. This is a pretty supportive community, so I'm sure you'll find a lot off helpful people here. I hope you're able to stop. I haven't been off the sauce for very long, but I feel better already. I think it's worth it.

I don't mean to pry, but do you live anywhere near Basingstoke? I have family there.

Welcome mrmiller - wonderful to have you here.

It took me a long time to realize drinking was making me more depressed, not cheering me up. As you said, the next day you are down. It's good you realize that, & are aware you may be headed for trouble. I became dependent on it and ended up drinking all day, every day (even at work). I never dreamed that would happen to me.

Try to find other ways of easing your loneliness and boredom. Drinking isn't a cure for either thing. I hope you'll keep posting and share more of your thoughts with us. We care about you. (I have family in Sheffield )

Welcome!

It's very hard to acknowledge that alcohol has taken over your life, and we do understand.

to SR.

Totally understand...I drank in good times, in bad times, anger, sadness, grief, isolation, social settings, to cope, and feelings of not belonging. Keep posting and reading here at SR and take it one day at a time...and think the drink thru to the consquences (it is not better to drink). Currently I utlize AA and the support I have in AA as well as SR...which helps me tremondously each day to strive for a better way to live.

Hey mrmiller,

I drank for very similar reasons. Drinking made me feel more bored in then end as my addiction would make me feel bored until I drank some more. The loneliness only got worse too as I hid from people to conceal my drinking and to hide from the judgement of others.

Drinking to forget is like trying to cure a headache with a hammer. You'll be out of it for an hour or two but will come back feeling worse off and it just keeps getting worse and worse.

Hey C -

Welcome to SR. I think I started drinking out of boredom and loneliness and it eventually developed into every day drinking to excess.

Best of luck. You will find lots of support here!
