How much?

Just out of curiosity, how much were you drinking when you hit your rock bottom?

The rock bottom point when you knew you had to take action and quit drinking.

Emotional bankruptcy. I stopped battling, surrendered and accepted that I was killing myself. I didn't count my drinks or ounces or cans or bottles at that point...

Hi,

I'm not sure if you have stopped drinking yet, but I hope you find your way to a sober life.

I was drinking about four drinks twice a week when I hit my bottom.

I agree with Anna.

There is no magic number. Just as there are many answers that work for one person and not another.

So, are you asking because you are wondering if you are an alcoholic? or are you asking because depending on the answer it may allow you to give yourself permission to drink more? I am venting here......sorry.

I was drinking too much, too often, and in a problematic way. Alcohol was the center of my life, in short.

The level's going to be different for everyone- and sometimes it's just that the alcohol is a reflection of lots of other problems (it was for me).

But to answer your question, my nightly routine started with a beer, moved to half a bottle of bourbon, then to 3 or 4 glasses of wine, and finished with a few hits of strong pot. Passed out by 10PM. At 6 PM the next day the routine started all over again.

It was really just out of curiosity. I know that I am an alcoholic. I never want to drink more than I have recently.

Alcoholism is, among other things, progressive. Keep drinking, means drinking more and more over time.

How much? A lot. But you know, I knew a lot of people who drank a lot. But me? I drank in secret, I drank before work, I drank at work, I drank as soon as I woke up on the weekends. THAT'S how I knew I needed to do something.

I'm 5'7" and 130lbs and drank 8 to 10 most every night. I live in a dry county where there is no alcohol sold on Sundays and would try to no buy ahead for one day off a week.

I agree with everyone else-- there is no certain number of drinks that would make it clear you are an alcoholic. For myself, I was drinking different amounts during different stages of my drinking career, with the most being a bottle of whiskey, vodka, or rum a night. I think the only thing that matters is how a person thinks about alcohol and whether or not they control it. I couldn't.

That's an interesting question. Seems like almost everyone has a different answer.

Now ask if we wish we'd stopped sooner, and see what happens....

By the end of my drinking...I was a bar fly with periods of black outs. I have no idea how much I was drinking.

I can tell you my brain became saturated with alcohol...and that was a really dark depressed time in my life.

Grateful to now be a successfully recovered AA alcoholic....

Since you know you are an alcoholic....what are you doing about it?
Many of us are winning over booze and so can you.

I drank myself into a hospital bed where I wasn't allowed water for three days for fear of it shocking my system too much. That's right, water. I really, really love water now.
