Fen, I am so glad you told the doctor! It shows just how much you value yourself - and that one thing made me teary eyed!!!

I remember the first time I spoke to a doctor (he was a drug/alcohol specialist). Oh my word, once I started, it all came spilling out. It was such a relief to be honest about my consumption, to hear a reassuring voice telling me I wasn't unusual, or crazy, or stupid. Just someone who needed support. He thanked me for being honest, and told me he was proud of me for making that step. We then worked together on a plan for me.

I walked out of there feeling lighter than I had in years.

I was stupid though, and although I followed his plan for a while, I decided I knew better, and started drinking again. That was nearly the death of me! I'd love to go back to him again and just check in with him, let him know how things are going this time. I'd like to show him great things can happen to people

Boy that first step is scary. You did it. So should be so proud of yourself. Have you decided about a recovery plan? You can do this.

You took an amazingly brave and difficult first step. Maybe there's 12 more to consider?

Congratulations! I'll bet you made his day. I mean, people become doctors for all kinds of reasons, but at some level, they want to help people. And your trust in him let him do what needed to be done. Good for you--for what you did for him (her)?

Good for you. Although his saying, "read the big book" didn't sound right. My doctor talked bout options available, side effects of detoxing, and how to proceed with quitting.

Best wishes!
