R.I.P. Amy Winehouse
I'm saddened by this - and saddened too by the astounding lack of compassion already exhibited by some things I've read today.
Lets have some simple respect here tho, please.
If anyone understands it should be us.
Any one of us could have been an Amy Winehouse.
I hope she's found peace now.

Sad for her to be gone so young, and sad for her loved ones who will miss her so much and might always wonder if they could have done something differently/more. Unfortunately, such is the disease that their last conversation might very well have been stormy and there are no re-do's.
I'm saddened by the news today. I agree with Dee 100%. If we can't understand who can? I would like to add, addiction is no joke. Whether it be alcohol, drugs or a combo of both. Sadly SOME people don't make it out alive. We need to keep that in mind ...not only for this poor girl but for ourselves.
I'm sure, her ambition in life, wasn't to be an alcoholic and drug addict and die at age 27.
RIP Amy
Prayers to her family and friends, and all who loved her.

Dee, as usual, you take the words right out of my mouth.
For heavens sake, we of all people should have nothing but compassion for this woman and her family. There but for the grace of god go I.
This could have easily been any one of us. Unfortunately, this poor woman has had to face her demons in the public eye and with public ridicule. I don't know many people with this disease could have coped with that much pressure.
I feel sad today. It's not that we knew the woman personally but we are all intimate with this affliction.
R.I.P. Amy Winehouse..... I hope you have found the peace you sought.

I was surprised at how moved I was by her death. I even called my mom and talked about it with her. I feel absolutely terrible that this talent lost her life so young, and that her parents lost a daughter. As I said, it just as easily could have been me.
But, I think we need to be careful about blaming other people for our problems. There's definitely a lot to learn from what happened to Amy (or more accurately, what she did to herself). I don't think blaming the machine is it, though.
+1 to this.. the Affliction does not care WHO we are. if you got it.. it WILL kill you if you don't do what is necessary to stay clean and sober! nobody should die at 27 years old.

I have nothing to say that hasnt been said , by someone or myself during my life on this beautiful earth.
Another death due to addiction.
Sing with the angels Amy, sing till your hearts content, and forever have peace

I always thought she had great talent, despite her recklessness, and it is sad that now there can never be another album like her masterpeice...I remember I heard that song, Rehab, the day I was laid off at NASA, and driving home, I wondered: Is this new, or old? Anyway, it made me cry somehow, hearing it that first time.
And it mocked a very pervasive trope: anytime a celebrity or politicain got into trouble, off to rehab they went, as if it was the letest variety of classy spa or resort. I think her song struck a nerve with this kind of narrative, and did so in spades, hence its enduring popularity. In my mind, it is the greatest pop song of the last decade, in trope, vocals, production and the odd admixture of 60s soul and bad-boy(girl) working calss urbanism.
Maybe she set a bad example, and her life was messed up...still, I will miss her.
And it reminds me: Be careful, be cafeful. This reminds me to try harder.
I'm gonna miss you Amy Winehouse, and that beehive hair. Send me a song from the beyond, in my dreams, ok?
