Tempted

So today is my fifth day and I feel really bad. I am so tempted to have a drink right now. Why is it today is worst than yesterday. I thought it was supposed to get better:(

It will get better, but getting there really sucks, I know. Hang in there it is worth it and you are worth it. Go for a walk, go to bed early anything but pick up a drink. You can do it.

You may feel better physically, but you have to work on the mental obsession. Why do we drink in the first place? I drank for many reasons. It does get better, but it takes work. I would suggest looking into a program of recovery.

Good days and bad days intermix like they do for all of us. The key is to stay the course. On the bad days seek out some good, like the support and care of others.

I always make it 3-5 days and then I couldn't take it anymore and I would drink. I don't know your drinking pattern, but mine was such that the physical caving didn't leave until about a month. Then I had my head to deal with. An allergy of the body and an obsession of the mind. I had to give my body time. I found that recovery support had huge benifits in letting me share my cravings. We have all been there. Be as kind to yourself as you would be to a small child. As early in recovery we are but wee ones.

It does get better...but not always immediately...thats why support groups like SR exist :)

I spent 20 years drinking...I had unreasonable expectations on being 'normal' in a couple of weeks - I think many do...but it doesn't work like that I'm afraid.

We're changing our lives - that takes time :)

Staying sober was in many ways the hardest thing I had to do....but the most worthwhile.

It was easier than my drinking life anyway :)

You're not alone Sark - stick with it :)

Dee you hit it on the nail. I think I expect to be better now. I am so impatient. I just want it over with already but like you said it takes time. It is very difficult:(

I think we're all impatient. Immediate gratification is what addiction is all about :)
Lean on the folks here, Sark :)
