Questions when facing unemployment soon?

I've been working for a job for about 3 months now and I enjoy working for the company. The pay is not that good ($13) and we are now working 40 hours a week. The job will end in August for some and the few in September. It took me about 10 months to just get this job. The boss said that he will most likely keep me on until September because I'm one of the best designers. How do I prepare to get a new job when I do get lay off from the company?

The company will start up again in December and need a full time job. Sorry if this is not an alcohol/drug related question but would like to get help on this. I want to be in good standings with this job so I can use it for refers when I get a new one.

P.S.; Because I've been out of work for 10 months I would rather be work on weekends then have those days off.

Unfortunately, the job market being what it is right now, you can't have too many restrictions on what you're willing to accept. Since you and your employer know you will be out of work come September, maybe you should go ahead and start putting out feelers for a new job. Word of mouth, asking people you currently do business with if they know anyone who is looking for help. Most of the time, it's not necessarily what you know, but who you know. Start putting out the word that you're looking for work. Maybe your current employer could help?

Maybe temporary agencies or can you contract out doing your own design work? Probably not the best person to ask...but I just recently updated my skill set and have expanded my job search...as I have been unemployed a year yesterday. All my prayers that you receive a job before this one ends.
