I bring my own drinks to social events (i make sure to bring enough for myself and any other non drinkers) and if i usually tell people i'm on medication that doesn't allow me to drink, which is true. If i wasn't on these meds i would just tell people that i don't care to (or feel like) drinking. Most people won't push alcohol on you and if they do, they're probably making a fool of themselves. Stand tall, don't make a deal out of your sobriety and enjoy the festivities. Alcohol is only a small part of what's going on.

These early days I'm trying to weigh up whether the event is something I want to go to for other reasons than it's something that I can drink at.

I have in the past I've attended the most boring social events just because there was going to be alcohol, recently I'm trying to be more discerning!
