not drinking making my throat hurt??

I feel sick. My sinuses hurt, my throat is all red and it hurts to swollow. I have a headache and have been sleeping a lot.

Any chance of this being related to not drinking for a week? Any one else experience this?

I can't take any time off of work because I missed so much recently by getting drunk and calling in sick the next day.

Hi ETA,
I can't give any medical advice since I'm not a doctor, but about 80% of the times when I came off the booze for a streak of sobriety I got a throat-ache and got just .. basically symptoms of a nasty cold. They went away after a few days.
I've always seen this as my body just being a little confused and adjusting to it's new state. Also I feel like drinking may have postponed any underlying issues and they come out once your body isn't so distracted processing loads of alcohol, but that's just a wild guess.
I'm very familiar with throat-aches unfortunately and if it gets worse after 3, 4 days you should have your doctor check for strep-throat, in which case you can go on antibiotics. (But you probably know this). What I've also found oddly helpful is to make tea from (garden) sage and drink it throughout the day. : )

I am new here. Just quit drinking yesterday - and today is the first day I have woke up WITHOUT a hangover in a LONG time. And guess what? ....this morning my throat hurts and I have drainage, lol. Not funny, but I just figured in some way it was related. That or allergies, but I have not had any problems with that yet this year.

My plan is to lots of water today, everyday.

If it persists or gets worse, hello doctor. (or zyrtec, yuck)

I was thinking something like my body was detoxing and it's affecting my immune system.

Yes lots of water and I'll try the tea!

And, do check with your dr if you're concerned.

I'm not really concerned. I rarely get sick so it seemed like an odd coincident - I was curious if anyone else had experienced this.

Yes! I had a sore throat and headaches! BLA! Maybe it has something to do with histamines? I know alcohol dries us out so maybe it's our body trying to lube itself? Who knows.

I had this weird mucus in the back of my throat. I have no idea what causes it. I am glad it has gone away though and I hope you feel better soon.

I'm just getting over what felt like strep throat. I'll finally be able to go back to work tomorrow. On the bright side, I didn't drink, and haven't been smoking cigarettes.

Maybe there is some correlation here.

I never get sick...but got sick after quitting. Sinus infection -not fun. But better than waking up with a hangover.

Thanks all! I actually feel worse but I have been drinking tons of immune booster and detox tea. Normally I would hit the Nyquil but I think I'll stick with advil at bedtime.

I would much rather be sick like this than where I was a week ago - totally wasted and blacked out!
