Today will be a real struggle.
Today will be a real struggle.
4 days sober now. It's Saturday today and that's going to be really difficult. The diseased part of my mind tells me that as it's Saturday everyone will be drinking, which of course I know isn't true. There is a major war going on in my head, no holes barred!
I'll go to an AA meeting tonight to make sure I have the best support possible.
Hope I can get some sleep afterwards.
Wishing you all a sober and happy weekend.
Spikeman.

Saturdays are rough for me, too. But, I've got 17 months of them behind me now, so it can be done.
I wish I had some great avice, but I just go for a bike ride, watch tv, read the internet and drink coffee and smoke cigs. I do NOT recommend the latter two.
Do what you can to stay busy. There's a whole sober world out there for you now, just waiting for you to find and enjoy it.
Best to you.

I found chocolate helps soothe the nerves at drinks time. I am still doing it but less so. I also tired to focus on the next morning. Today I went for a walk for 75 mins at the time I would normally draaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaggggggg myself out of bed !!
Best of luck for the weekend. we've fought hard to get here.

Hey Spikeman, glad you're here. I made this comment to another post recently but don't be afraid, if you're in AA anyway, to have a Fri/Sat (even Sun if you need to) set of meetings. Here in my town, most of them go out to eat afterward (fellowship). I used to do it just to keep myself occupied, now I still go most of the time because these people have become genuine friends.
Other nights I stay home, watch TV, drink coffee, etc. - At first I ate a LOT of sweets too, I've cut back but I let myself indulge a little extra on Fri/Sat nights and I stay up extra late watching netflix or reading or playing with my dog. As Ghost said, there's a whole world out there waiting to be explored, but we have to stay sober and get a solid grip on that as our top priority, especially in the beginning when that obsession and mind trickery are so powerful.
Again, glad you're here. You could stay occupied for weeks if you just read SR (and check out a digital subscription to the aa grapevine, I read the crap out of those archives my first 1-2 months).
