You want a spike in that?

So I went to the live gig I was looking forward to all week - solo, since the hubby pulled out last minute due to 'man flu'. It was fantastic - it's been years and years since I've had the cotton wool/ringing in the ears and sore feet combo. Drove home on a happy, sober high at 1am, and still tapping my feet even now!

I'd ordered a ginger ale at the bar. And the bartender asked me: "Do you want a spike in that?"

"Er....no thanks, I don't even know what a spike is, but I can guess. That's why I ordered a GINGER ALE..that's all I want. Nothing else in it, thank you, bar a little ice".

"You sure?" said with a raised eyebrow, "I'll give it to you for free".

Oh come on...surely you know how to serve a non alcoholic drink, don'tcha?

Sounds like a James Bond movie or something hahaha. Maybe if you had said yes some secret passage would have opened up! LOL!

Was gonna ask how it went, was thinking of you!! Really glad you enjoyed it, there is NOTHING like a live gig & the resultant tinnitus, hoarse voice & achey hands & feet

I had a similar thing when I asked for tonic water. ''What, like a gin & tonic???'' Er, yeah, just like that. Without the gin...

Mind you, I LIKE Ryans idea too.:rotfxko

Sounds like you had a great time.

I found the only thing they don't try to add booze to is bottles of water. Of course I always get charged a boatload for them (sometimes if I say I'm the sober driver I can get a few free). They even want to put Irish in my coffee. LOL

Only in sobriety would one encounter a bartender bent on doling out free booze.

Oh I'm a bit slow on the uptake.. Im glad you had a good time New, And well done you for refusing the "spike".

I dont recall you saying who was playing.. Was it a goth rock band? If so maybe the spike was a real spike, With complimentary rust??

What's Man Flu? Really?

And you found a bar with ginger ale? How did you manage that.

Maybe you should take the free spike as a compliment. I certainly would. I would probably have had trouble turning it down to...but good for you.

Maybe they scanned you as you approached the bar and could tell you weren't drunk. Maybe there's a drunk minimum and the bartender is required to keep the BACs up.
