drove_to_a_meeting_-_1st_time_in_18mon

For the 1st time since I got sober, since I really tried AA and actually did the work, I drove myself to a meeting yesterday.

B/c of the two duis I earned, my license has been suspended for the last 18 months, but over the last few weeks I've earned it back and my car is now up and running again (and legal).

I'm not gonna lie, I was singing to the car radio and I even got choked up a bit.

It's been a long, hard, painful, awkward, but wonderful journey thus far.

...and now I'll be ready to help someone else get back and forth to meetings.

Kjell~

Good for you Kjell! I think that sometimes these difficult things are best for us. Now you have a strong understanding of what you have.

What did you listen to on the radio?

Helping people to and from meetings is one of the easiest and most rewarding parts of service work you can do. Especially when someone is new. I'm often offered money to drive them but I never take it. When I smoked, I would also give them a couple of cigarettes just to make sure they made it through the night.

Good for you!

Kjell, your post definitely brought a smile to my face.

You have worked hard and now you have the benefit of being a driver again. Good for you!

Nice juan! I'm just about the dui process, it's my first one but I'm also on probation (I'm pretty freaked out! Hope I don't do jail time...)

Thought I could moderate and beat the system but that obviously didn't work out. Completely sober this time around for me. I look forward to the day I'm in your position

Congratulations Kjell and "Halo" is a great song to rock out to! I always read your posts and they are a reminder to me of how grateful I need to be. I drove drunk so many times and was never stopped. Others like you weren't so lucky and had to pay a very high price. I appreciate your posts and your wisdom here.

HA HA I LOVE THIS THREAD!

Brings back memories. I lost my license after having one for twenty years, for the same reason, and rather than doing what I was supposed to do, I made a decision not to drive instead of quitting drinking. Ask me how did that work for ya? (no-jk-don't ask)

It was a quite a few years before I got sober and then my license back. I remember being extremely nervous because my sister let me drive her car when I first got my license back. It was full occupancy - we all got together to do some yard sales and shopping. I had to merge from a complete stop onto a 55 mph state route. When I saw my opportunity, I slammed on the gas and everyone's head snapped back as I let her fly! Caused a a little whiplash without an actual impact!

Feels great, doesn't it????

Way to go...............

I've got a really great karaoke security system in my car - it keeps drunks from stealing it. (blow and go you have to hum into)

Thanks Bluebird.

Its all in how you look at it and I'm glad my experience has been helpful.

There are some who have wrecked, like me, but either seriously hurt of killed other people (or themselves).

I consider myself VERY lucky too.

Man, you've got this brutally honest thing down, I don't think I would have owned up to that. :rotfxko
