Day 23 rehab - Kelly

Just checking in - rushing off to two recovery education lectures.

Keep the plug in the jug, all!

I am going home Friday, until Sunday afternoon - wish me luck!

Liquor stores, behind me!

Wow Kelly....a 3 day pass. That sounds good.

I know I absorb some of what they taught me those
first 28 day I was sober, because it helped me to remember
what was most important to me when I got home.

Don't drink, dont get into my head to much with thinking
or sorting thinks out and go to meetings.

With 3 days of freedom its likely that many patiants will
be squirrely with what to do since they are not in a structured
recovery inviroment. That support net will not be there if the
urge to drink or use becomes increasingly strong.

Its neat to know ahead of time before u go home to have a
plan in place for such emergency. To have support when you
get out and have that support to be strong enough to stand
by you in ur early stage of recovery.

Being alone or by urself makes one vunerable to many temptations lurking around your home, work, neighborhood, grocery stores etc.

Alcohol and drugs are never gonna disappear from the face
of the Earth to keep us from reaching for it. So we have to arm ourselves with the knowledge and tools to ward off those demons.

I realized that when I got home, the world didnt come to a scretching halt just for me. My family went on about their daily lives not skipping a beat while I was holding on to the desire to not drink and do whatever I needed to do to keep myself sober.
It was I who had to get in the car and go to those many many meetings even when I didnt want to. It was suggested that when I didnt want to go then that was when I really
needed to go and I was glad every time I went. In doing so, it calmed me down when the world seemed to be revolving to fast for me. It continued to give me hope and strength to make it another day.

I was given a new lease on life and even tho the furture seemed so far away and was told it will get better, I continued to piece one day at a time together to add up to months sober, then yrs sober and now 20 yrs sober later.....ive arrived.

Recovery is a journey thru life without alcohol or drugs and it is rewarding.

I am following your posts Kelly and you are da bomb! Keep up with the recovery journey!
I have not met one single person in the rooms of AA who didn't say that rehab was the best thing that happened to them.

Indeed, rehab was the best thing that happened to me, all 4 of them...see, they helped me weed out alternatives until I awoke in another state funded facility with the realization that I suffered from something that only a spiritual experience can conquer. Don't get too hungry, angry, lonely, or tired did not treat what was wrong with me. I needed real Power.

Hmmm...that last facility I was at did not offer weekend passes...I wonder what that was about? :)

I'm so glad to hear that you're going home this weekend.

I will pray for a positive situation with your family.

It will be so nice for you to go home. Congratulations and thank you for all of your encouragement. Your sharing your experience really makes my own journey seem real. While you have been working the program, I have been lapsing back and forth. But I'm getting stronger and you are a good model!
