Whats that? 2 Weeks down?!?! No.. Cant be!! OMG IT IS!!! 15 days sober today! Thats right a half a month! So that means if anyone asks me, "Hey Ryan what did you acomplish in 2011?." I could say well I was sober 1/24th of it! Wohoo been sober 1/24th of 2011! YEAH! And that number will continue to grow. In 2 more weeks Ill be able to say 1/12. And a month after that 1/6!! Feels great heading in the right direction now. I just need to clean up some messes Ive created over the years. But thats part of coming to terms with ones self. So what have I done to stay sober for 2 weeks? Ill share some tips. 1. Coming to this place! SR has been such a crutch for me, and so thankful for it. 2. Think about tomorrow! Keep looking ahead, and know drinking today will only make tomorrow a terriable day. And who wants a terriable day?! Not me! 3. Ignore those mind wondering thoughts about drinking. As you start to feel better, your mind thinks its ok to drink again. But don't listen to that! Its a trap! Your mind is confused because its used to routine, and doesn't know whats good for it. Dont worry the mind will relearn overtime :) 4. Drink tea! Don't ask me why, but Ive been drinking a lot of green tea lately, and it seems to help. 5. Start to slowly let people know your getting sober. I have been doing this, and the reaction from people with the 'at a boys' really help! The people that get upset you quit, well distant yourself from them. They're just jealous! Thats really it. Everyone will have their own little things that help them, but those are just mine. Again woohoo for my 1/24th of a year! Im going drinking! Green Tea that is :P -Ryan |
Good for you, Ryan! I agree that recotnizing the 'addict voice' and dismissing it is a huge help. |
Right on, good for you. The tea helped/helps me a lot too, not sure why either but it works. Good job. |
Great job, keep up the good work! |
Hi Ryan- 15 days is great - keep it up! Kjell~ |
Congratulations Ryan :) D |
Way to go! :) THat first two weeks was always the worst for me. Once I made it past that I felt better and more secure. Here's to many more sober days.:) |
Hey Ryan Yeah I love tea too, I find if I have a cup of tea about 8 oclock I dont want to drink alcohol at all. It must be brain food :e058: |
Congrats! It can only get better from here on out! |
Good for you....forward is the correct direction...:funjump: |
Congrats Ryan! |
Tea and diet dr pepper are my go-to's! WTG Ryan! You are doing so good. You're light years ahead of me! |

Thanks all for the kind words! Know that you ALL have helped me make a HUGE difference in my life. Who runs and operates this site anyways? |
Ryan, I'm so glad for you. Great that you are feeling better and know about those sneaky jedi mind tricks. sh |
Whoever does, I'm glad for it ! Congrats on the 15 (over 365 ) .....wow, that really is 1/24 :) Thanks for the post, brother. |
Congratulations!!! Loved your post - lots of good ways to get through the urges. Keep up the good work!:c014: |
Way to go (((Ryan)))! I'm pretty sure SR was started by someone named John (or is it Jon)....don't know him, but am ever so grateful for him:) Keep up the good work...you're on a roll, and it's a good one! Hugs and prayers, Amy |
Congratulations Ryan!! Loved your post! You have a fantastic attitude!! Keep Up The Good Work!! :c011: :You_Rock_ :bday8 :ghug3 |
Ryan, think of it as the first 15 days of a new life! Your new life, sober all of the time, won't all be peaches and cream but it sure beats the life of an active alcoholic. Congrats and keep moving forward. You do have the right attitude as UrbanCowgirl said. |
Congratualtions on your 15 days. I can feel from your posts that you remain positive. That is also very important. Positive thoughts create positive actions resulting in positive results. Tea is good. I have been drinking tea forever -even inbetween binges. But now its all I drink in the evening. Glad to hear that you are progressing onward. Tomorrow is a new sober day..... |
Ryan...I am high five slapping you all over the room!!! I love the enthusiasm..It does just get better and better! Glad you are here. |
Tea? Tea?? I'm British - we drink tea! Even boozers find time for tea over here! My little secret? Ginger Beer - the non-brewed, synthetic stuff, of course. As long as it has plenty of 'afterburn'. Works for me. The only problem? Combined with tubloads of ice cream and slabs of chocolate, I'm laying down luuv handles! |
Well Done Ryan! Inspriring for a newbie like me! Can't wait to say the same! |
Great post Ryan, I am a couple of days ahead of you. It is a great feeling, and your right on regarding this site. Cannot read enough comments about how this place has changed lives, mine has for sure. Keep up the good work!! |
