I can relate to the reward thing with alcohol. I worked my butt of in a demanding job full time job, went back to graduate school and was a very involved dad with my kids. My reward at the end of the night after everyone was in bed was a little "liquid vacation" with vodka and beer while I unwound. I did this for a long time, my tolerence increased and . . . well, you probably know where it ended up.
