Day 20 rehab - Kelly
20 down, 15 to go!
Great check-in meeting an hour ago.
Bowling after lunch!
Making lots of good AA recovery friends, here - people I can go to meetings with, back home, once rehab is over.
Still having trouble with the whole "Higher Power" concept - that'll be a tough nut to crack.
Our addictions counsellor is awesome! Great!
ODAAT.

...drove by a liquor store and beer store the other day, and kept on going past them!

Hi Kelly - I'm so glad you made the decision to go to treatment. It helped me so much - it was the first time in my life I paid attention to ME.
I don't think you have to have the Higher Power thing all figured out. I think we have to accept where we are and just have an open mind, realizing that we have limitations and don't know everything. It's about connecting with the human spirit. I find that I can feel that connection more often when my mind is quiet - like I let go of my concepts - and with an open heart.
When I first started, I began with the idea that if there was a God at all, he/she had to be love (because if he/she wasn't, I wasn't interested). I needed something simple, haha! So the "turning over" part wasn't about forcing myself to believe, or leaving my life in the hands of some power I knew nothing about. It was just me saying "if there's a better way, a higher way, I'm willing to be shown."
Hope that helps! Carry on - you're doing great!!

In a sense, it is not so much recognizing the presence of a god as it is the realization that we aren’t one.

Bowling....Strike'em all down Kelly. But most of all
have fun.
We can have fun in recovery and thats the whole point
of it is, along with living and working a recovery program
that will and can keep us sober for a lifetime of many one
days at a time.
For 20 yrs sober I have seen members come and go and
many that have remain sober or clean for a substantial
period of time. With all that that has gone on around me,
I continue to stand fast with my recovery because this way
of life is not only important to me but also rewarding.
Even tho the fellowship is awesome in recovery, I have to
remember that everyones has their own recovery program
to work for themselves as I do for me. I also have to remember
Im staying sober for myself and no one can keep me sober
but me no matter how much support I have. The williness
to go to any lengths to stay sober is important.
Using the fellowship to ur advantage but also stay sober for you
and no one else. The rest will follow such as your Higher Power.
Your Higher Power can be as simple as just being grateful that
you have come this far being sober and having the opportunity
at this time to be taught about your alcoholism. Just being grateful
and excited to have a new day sober. If you can honestly feel that
deep within ur heart and soul then u are doing good.
