Emotions > Drinking
AA meeting this morning, here in rehab day 19.
Chairperson qualified as alcoholic by saying:
Work was rough, I drank.
Work was great, I drank.
Work was so-so, I drank.
Kids were bad, I drank
Kids were angels, I drank
Kids were so-so, I drank.
AI YI YI :-<
...alkies don't need a reason.

alcoholics drink alcohol for the identical same reason social drinkers drink alcohol.
to change the way they feel.
the difference is the social drinker has control, as exercized by their willpower, before, during and after they drink.
the alcoholic has no control, but will die trying to exercize the control that they see social drinkers use.
this is puzzling as oftentimes the alcoholic has good control and use of willpower in lots of other areas of their life.

When we get sober we learn ways to not drink
again. There will be reasons when sober where
we will WANT to drink, but with a recovery program
in place and working, then we don't NEED to drink.
Learning to incorperate the steps and priciples
in my everyday life, I havnt had the need to drink
for 20 yrs. now. A many one days at a time collected
together to get me where I am today.
Be able to act instead of react to situations or triggers
that flare up unexpectantly as they will tempt us to drink.
