Back again for another swing ...

I came here the first time I became sober and it gave me direction and purpose ... unfortunately through the usual trigger .... I have not been able give it up. It started with the occasional evening of drinking when traveling and being able to get sober when at home and then it took longer to get sober and now I can give it up and only last a few days. My path last time was Buddha as I could relate to the HP being inside you but my HP is not very effective drunk. I know I need a group to relate to ... that is clear, but I am not a fan of AA.. or rather the Christian element of it. I have found that the first day of getting sober I need to keep busy which distracts the craving. The next step is to reinforce the good work with some sort of 'group' and the final step is to remove the trigger which I think needs to be helped aith Adabuse (never used it but willing to try) .... what is people's experience with Adabuse? Any other suggestions?
This rambles a little as I am still 'fogged' but I am determined to have good intentions prevailing

Be willing to do ANYTHING to get sober, including being open-minded about AA. You can do the 12 steps without being Christian. "Christian" doesn't appear once in the big book, nor is "Jesus" mentioned.

If there is any element of christianity in AA, it's because of the Judeo-Christian heritage of our culture. People reflect the culture they live in; people join AA. Many are Christians. But it's not a requirement. Wanting to stop drinking is the only requirement.

I did use Antabuse in one of my many failed attempts at sobriety.

You must have a liver function test to know if it can be safe
for you....then regular medical check ups as you continue to
take the drug.
It also has a after life....and drinking on itt makes you violently ill.
some people are highly sensitive to alcohol...so other factors may set Anatbuse off.
My doctor suggested it works best when conbined with a program.

I did drink ..only a single split of champagne ..while on the lowest dose
became so ill...I quit the Anatbuse. I did stop drinking 4 months later
with out useing any drug.

Yes...I use AA but perhaps SMART has meetings near you
Here is a link with SMART AND OTHERS

As you might remember.....SR has members who are winning over alcohol useing a
variety of methods. Please keep trying whatever....nchecked alcoholism kills.

All my best ...Welcome back...

Hi Holdfold-

I simply had to change who I was or the same me would drink again and again and again.

Maybe this is true with you too?

It's time to let go of some old ideas.

Kjell~
