Finally got a job but still having to go to court

I finally got a job after being out of the job for 10 months. Feeling good about that. The only problem is that I will be going to court for my DUI around the same time I start working. How to deal with that?

I've never been in the situation Act10n.
Does your new boss not know about your DUI - is that the problem?

Hi, Can't you just tell your new boss upfront that you have to take that particular day off without mentioning what it is for? Normally I do not believe that work would have a problem with it if you let them know in advance you will not be in that day.

Hi :) Congrats on the job, esp. in this economy! Does your new boss not know about this DUI, since you haven't been to court yet?

All I can say is be prepared. Different things happen in different states, even cities. When I was back in MI, I lost my license for a year on my first DUI, not to mention an insane amount of probation and court costs.

But just remember, that this will pass as well. At least you now have a job to focus on...whatever happens keep your head up and deal with whatever happens the very best possible without picking up. :o)

Take care of yourself!

Yeah, it seems to me that you should arrange the day off right from the start.

It doesn't mean you need to say what it's for, unless you choose too, but you could specificy about the particular date in your negotiations to begin work.
