Truth time Sure, like, I'm having almost no cravings here, in rehab, day 8 of 35. But, what happens when I go home, and face my angry family, who sarcastically yell at me and trigger me to relapse? I feel like moving to Antarctica after rehab, and becoming an ice fisherman - to get away from the homefront. Ugh. Back soon, have to see the addictions counsellor. Kelly |
Hopefully the coping skills you've been lacking in dealing with your home life are something you learn about and acquire while you're at rehab.. that's sort of the point. We need to learn how to really live life, on life's terms.. and if you're anything like me, you aren't great at doing that (yet). Course, you'll also probably need to look at whether or not your current home life is something you'll be willing to continue living in.. |
Some people transition to a sober living facility after leaving rehab. It can be quite helpful in allowing you to ease yourself back into the outside world. |
Kelly- talk to the people at homewood. I would hope the offer FAMILY counceling before you go home. IMO everyone needs to get on board. Let us know what happens. |

As far as dealing with family issues...We all have to face them and it's hard. I've dealt with some pretty rough crap over the last 6 months. But it's the way I deal with it now, sober, that makes a difference. You will find that if you are willing to go to any length to remain sober that you will just step back from a situation that would normally be a trigger to drink. |
Kelly, nobody deserves verbal abuse. Hopefully your family will participate in some counselling and you can all begin to heal as a family. |
