Beginning again...

I tried these forums in the past and quit because I convinced myself that I didn't have a problem. I do. My main problem with my drinking is guilt. Even if I only have a couple or a glass of wine with my hubby---guilt. So, the alcohol has to go. There is NO reason to do something INTENTIONALLY that I know is going to cause me mental anguish!

Here's to day #1........

Welcome trying! I managed to convince myself I could drink normally too..... and it worked for a while but I always ended up in the same place, knowing that alcohol was hurting me but doing it anyway.

I'm glad you've decided give sobriety another chance. I miss drinking sometimes, but my life is so much better without it. Lots of support here!:grouphug:

Thanks to the both of you. I really think that I can do this this time. I'm just ready to be finished with it..........

If you think you can do it, you probably can. Maybe seek out a support program, or post here or whatever helps.
Remember, you never have to drink again.

Best to you.

Keep coming back until you get it working. This is the only way to do it!

I really like your line about intentionally causing yourself guilt. It sounds so simple that it shocked me when I finally understood it: "Why in the world do I keep doing things that cause me pain? If I don't like this feeling I'm having, and if I did things to cause this feeling to occur, then wouldn't the smart thing be to not do those things in the future?"

I try to use that all the time now. If I'm questioning whether or not I should do something, and I think doing it will cause me pain or problems, then I better not do it. And that's saved me on many occasions.

Had to post this as I have had a very positive evening. Had my inlaws over for Easter this evening, (planned prior to me deciding to stop drinking) They are all HUGE drinkers. There have been numerous beers and a few bottles of wine consumed in my house this evening and I DID NOT TAKE A SINGLE SIP! I am seriously doing the happy dance right now. I do have to admit that I have a bit of a hangover today, however, we all know that the usual cure for that is a drink. I did not do it. I DID NOT DO IT!:c031::c031::c031::c031:

Just take it one day at a time, or even one minute at a time... you will get through the hangover feeling. Glad to hear you have decided to live your life without alcohol... it will be worth it.

Stick around SR and keep coming back -- it really does work.

Wishing you the very best in your journey.

i had a couple 2 week 'stop drinking periods' when i found this fourm, i then relapsed to many times to count.

it was nearly a year later that i came back, im 2 months sober and feel strong about my recovery.

I wish you the very best T2DB, it is possible to win over this nasty thing.
