Here goes first night out with wine
Hi - I posted a while ago about my concerns about some social situations coming up. I am about to be picked up in a taxi for dinner, I am in Australia so night time here. I am going to spend the next while on SR. I just don't want to pick up that first glass but know it is going to be akward as the people I am with will want me to. I will post later tonight to let you know how i go. It has been 3 months for me, i have no desire to drink but a little voice is thinking I am normal now and perhaps have one, insanity. Just being honest, better to say it and challenge myself then to ignore.
Forward we go...side by side-Rest In Peace

I think it's less awckward to say I quit drinking
than to pass out at the table...I did that several times.
If dinner is in a restaurant...turn your wine glass upsdife down
then the server will know not to pour wine for you.
enjoy your dinner...food tastes better when you drink water

ring...our thoughts and prayers are with you. Keep them close. You adeptly described a weak point many of us struggle with. The 3 month point, when it is too easy to forget the havoc alcohol has played in our lives, and when we are starting to feel a bit "normal". Please remember the dangers of one drink for the vicious cycle to begin again. Peace.

Nobody can make you do anything you don't want to do.
I love Carols answer by the way - try passing out at the table or being publicly violently sick.
I've done both.
*That's*awkward.
Tonight will be a doddle.
You know how much your life has improved recently.
You know you can't have just one.
You know whats right for you - and waking up tomorrow knowing you did the right thing will be worth any awkwardness you may feel tonight
you can do this mate - have a good one

Just say "no thanks" to the wine and order some thing else - they'll get over it!
When we feel normal, we like to think we could drink normally, but nothing could be further from the truth. Stay strong and enjoy your evening with a clear head and the satisfaction of how well you've done......

It likely won't be as bad as you might think - maybe a tad awkward upfront, but after a few rounds in, people will probably forget to notice that it's unusual for you to not be joining in. I am in the middle of a week where drinks are being been pushed at me at every single meal and gathering and it took some time to fall into a rhythm of declining off the bat... But now when I say that I don't want a drink, I feel like I actually mean it. Ignore that voice and you'll do fine!
Thanks all. My hands are shaking a bit. strange, I used to drink before events so they wouldnt, a bit of a flash back.
On a good note, I look pretty fab. Have lost over 20 pounds I am about 60kg now 5 foot nine and in a nice tight black dress, I think some people who have not seen me for a while will be a bit shocked!
