1 Year and feeling wonderful!

Hi everyone,

I haven't been around in a while, battling my HCV but almost finished the "cure" although it half kills you doing it... :gaah

I just had to come back and tell you that I passed my 1 year mark the other day and didn't even think of it. I feel totally at ease with my sobriety, don't think about drinking even when with family or friends drinking. So, see it can be done. There is a life without that nasty beast!

A big thing for me was how people would react, well except for some outward hostility from alcoholic family members in the beginning nobody really bats an eyelash when I say "no, thanks, I'll stick with my water". I guess I have learned that most people don't think 24/7 alcohol and where their next drink is coming from.

I really need to thank SR and all the members. It was so hard in the beginning and many times I was afraid I wouldn't make it, but you guys were always here and always had a word of support. I also tried AA in the beginning and found good support during the acute phase, so I recommend them to anyone. At least give them a try, they are good. Wasn't my cup of tea in the end, never been the belonging to groups type. I didn't want to make a career of my alcoholism and neither was I willing to do the same with AA. Still attend occasionally to support my brother and it is all good.

You guys just beginning, keep it up, life on the sober side is wonderful! :c029:

Thanks again SR and all the people here that make this site wonderful.

Congratulations!! I'm holding out hope that what you say is true: that there actually will be a day when alcohol isn't the main thing on your mind. You should be so proud of yourself!! :)
