Question Music that helps?

Hi all!! I am having kind of a difficult time right now not drinking, and music has always helped me get strength and feel optimistic. I was just wondering if any of you have particular songs/groups that help you get through some of the bad times? Any suggestions would be much appreciated!!

I rely heavily on classical and jazz. The great composers wrote some beautiful music and it really moves me and gets me out of myself. Gives me energy. Also there are some really cool and impressive synthesizer renditions of great classical pieces.

I find jazz to be very relaxing, soothing.

Those are the two kinds of music that help me thru rough spots.

Music, I listen constantly. No particular music really, depends on what I am doing. If I need to chill, I listen to Ronnie Earl's jazz/blues music he has recorded since he found recovery himself.... Some of these CD's are Grateful Heart, Healing Time, Spread the Love and Language of the Soul... Most all are instrumental and have an uplifting yet peaceful center... I like Grateful Heart best, with Healing Time a close second... Check him out!

I like songs that are empowering:

Survivor - Destiny's Child
Watch Me Shine - Vanessa Carlton
I'm Still Standing - Elton John
Gonna Fly Now - Rocky theme song.
Eye of the Tigar - Survivor

Same thing with movies. I like watching people over come seemingly impossible odds to rise to their full potential. This is the same thing I, and every newly sober person, is doing.

If you think of music alot, probably you have hidden talent!
Ask yourself this, if you had a choice of playing a musical instrument, what would it be?
But to answer your question, lots of 60's and 70's, mostly DVD's of live performaces, Green Day, The Who , Rolling Stones, prefer the visuals.

Thanks for the suggestions! Hugger, I'm kind of the same as you! I refer to these songs/movies as "pump you up songs". Although when I'm mellow I listen to different music. I completely forgot about the rocky songs...love those!! Pete, actually I do play the piano and used to play the saxophone. Music is very powerful...especially when you're going through a challenging time. Thanks again!
