Hey SD - Anything going on in particular?

I know that I need inspiration too (daily)...... it really helps me to read everyone's posts - there's so many smart people here! And when I read about those who are still struggling it reminds me what an achievement it is to get through the day sober.

I used to think could handle everything and anything. Not true.....

Glad you're reaching out......:ghug3

You ask for inspiration, I just read this. I hope it helps :

On the day when
the weight deadens
on your shoulders
and you stumble,
may the clay dance
to balance you.

And when your eyes
freeze behind
the grey window
and the ghost of loss
gets in to you,
may a flock of colours,
indigo, red, green,
and azure blue
come to awaken in you
a meadow of delight.

When the canvas frays
in the currach of thought
and a stain of ocean
blackens beneath you,
may there come across the waters
a path of yellow moonlight
to bring you safely home.

May the nourishment of the earth be yours,
may the clarity of light be yours,
may the fluency of the ocean be yours,
may the protection of the ancestors be yours.
And so may a slow
wind work these words
of love around you,
an invisible cloak
to mind your life.

(((Thank you Ann)))

Looking for inspiration? Watch Rudy!

But if you really want to get sober, well then you're in the right place...

Inspiration only gets us so far in life. I remember when I was a kid watching Rocky. I left the theater so inspired, I thought I was going to train and become the next boxing champ. The next day I woke up, ate a raw egg (not kidding) and started doing push ups and sit ups and running, etc.. The next day, I woke up a little later, and before I knew it I was just another kid going to middle school who liked the movie lol...

It's my honest opinion that we must WANT sobriety. We can't do it for our wife, our kids, our parents, our job, our church, etc... we MUST do it for us. For me, I was sick and tired of hating myself. I was tired of being ashamed of who I saw in the mirror. The reason for my shame was due to the fact that I was living a life that didn't measure up to what I thought I deserved many years prior. Ask yourself this, when you were little, did you want to grow up and be who you are today? In my case the answer was no.

I wanted to be a good person, a good husband, a great father, a good employee, etc... but I just couldn't balance drinking like I HAD TO, and acting like I wanted to. Something had to give and it never seemed to be my drinking. I would sacrifice everything in order to drink like I had to. Notice I didn't say "wanted to", I said had to. I had lost the ability to chose how much or how long I was going to drink.

For me drinking is like having a sex with a gorilla. You're not done, until IT says your done. You can get better, I promise you. But you have to want it. If you want it, it takes some action. This site is a great start. Another good idea is to check out AA. It has saved my life.

Hope this helps. Keep coming back!!!!

Hey, welcome back SD!

I was wondering how you were doing. Sorry it's not so good. But I'm glad you're back. It's not easy, but you gotta keep trying — and keep trying something new. You only need to succeed once...

Take care,

SD
Today was a bitchen day to be sober in San Diego! The weather was awesome, so I walked the dog 5 miles, worked out for an hour and coached a little league practice. I took the wife and son out for dinner, and I did it happy and sober, and can't wait for tomorrow so I can enjoy another sober day in paradise.

How is that for inspiration??

I hope you are doing ok.

Maybe think about what you admire and aspire to, and why. Personally, I think the "why" usually merits enough thought to stay sober for awhile And then you can expound on that. I find my inspiration in survivors. True survivors- and I know that to live the best life possible despite very unkind circumstances, living free of intoxicants is key.

I'm not very inspiring, but AM thinking of you & wishing you a rainbow-bright, crystal burst of the future where you are all you can be, sober, clean and happy
