Greetings to all. After downing the best part of two bottles of red wine last night, and having spent the last few weekends with at least one hangover, I guess I need some support to knock this drinking lark on the head once and for all.
Regrettably, I seem not to be able just to have one glass of wine, but must see off the bottle. By the time I've drunk the whole bottle, then all sense seems to go out of the window, and before I know it, I've opened another one.....
Managed 80 sober days just before and over Christmas, so I must be able to do it.
Anyway, I'm getting weary of feeling lousy in the mornings and wasting my weekends away.
Hopefully, some of the postings will give me a feeling that I'm not alone in my struggle, and will provide me with some support.
So here we go.......Day One........One day at a time........

Hi SollytheGolly this is my day one as well. I wish you well on your journey and my reason for stopping is the complete embarrasment and shame Im feeling today I do not ever want to be in this position ever again so I've got the fuel to stop completely.
(((Solly))) - welcome to SR!! When I first got here, I read around on a lot of other posts and found "my story" being told over, and over...didn't matter if it was crack (my DOC -drug of choice) or something else, we all went through similar things.
It was comforting, to me, to realize I wasn't alone, and I've learned a lot from the great people here. It's nice being able to "talk" to people who get what we're going through.
Hugs and prayers,
Amy

Welcome to SR Solly.
I once had wine probs. I couldnt sleep knowing the bottle wasn't empty.
Id get up to finish it and eventualy promoted my Alcoholism to whisky.
Glad you found this site now, proper.

Wow, Stimmed......whiskey is really hard stuff. Have now managed to stop my kids from buying me single malts, which I was very partial to. The problem was, that if I had a bottle in the house, then I would manage to get through it within the week. If there was no whiskey in the house, then I wouldn't miss it, nor go out and buy me some.

Same here. I still have wine problems. What, save some wine for later? For the next day? Put on a tea kettle instead? That's positively mental!
Seriously though, if there's alcohol here, I will drink the lot of it, so I just have to keep it out of my place.
Major full blown alcoholism sneaks up on ya in a hot second. I've seen it happen to my and pretty much everyone in my family.
Welcome and take care...you're in the right spot here.

Welcome Solly,
I love red wine there was never enough ,if I was drinking a bottle with my husband and he left the room I would be topping mine up from the "cooking wine" I had in the kitchen cupbourd while he was gone to make the drinking last longer .I also had cooking wine stored in the spareroom times 6.
I wish you well getting dry.

Welcome Solly - You're definitely not alone..... Once I started on a bottle of wine, I could always justify "just one more" glass, until there was none left.
How did you manage 80 days last year? That's a good bit of time...
Hope you keep reading and posting - if we can do it, you can too!:ghug3
