530 days....woot...1 year 5 months

i had to go to the sober calculator for those. i quit keeping a calendar.

i apologize for not checking in lately. i mean it. this is the place that got me sober.

oh.....i had to want it. nobody can quit unless they want it worse than they want another drink. but this place gave me the support and encouragement when i was measuring my sober time by hours.

i'm 51 and it has been the best year and a half of my life. that's kinda a sad statement.....on me.....lol.

but life is good here in the commonwealth for me. my oldest son is getting married in june. i've helped rebuild a house for him and his fiance'. i could have done none of it while drinking.

well...i guess i could have but the lines of the house would be wobbly.

for any newcomer.....i was you. none of us come to this place because we had too much to drink one time. we're at the end when we come here.

i thank the board moderators and greeters that continue making this a 'life saving' home. that's what it does. save lives.

i went to see kid rock in nashville friday night. sober as a priest....check that one....sober as a cop....wait...check that one. let's just call it sober.

and i was surrounded by drunks. and i had to help referee a bunch of drama between the folks next to me and the folks behind me. i didn't really have to but it was the right thing to do.

had i been drunk i would not have been refereeing...i woulda been in the middle of it. lol. it was still a great show and i did the driving for a buddy who has driven me many times.

he didn't really get drunk but he had a few beers after the show. life is good right now for me and basically it is because i no longer drink.

love to all that are trying. and BIG LOVE to the regulars that are helping.

love always,

david.

Congrats Mr. Man. We're just a few days apart and I second everything you said. I just want to add for the new folks, I still get cravings. But, not as often and not as powerful as when I first quit. Now, I know I can wait them out. They don't control me anymore. When I first quit, my cravings made me feel like if I didn't drink I would die. Now I feel like if I do drink I will die. HANG IN THERE, IT GETS BETTER.

neo......the person i want to be when i grow up!!!!

i just read your message today. i haven't been on in awhile. i know when that happens it can mean two wildly different things. mine is still in the good pile...lol.

glad to see you and least are still rockin'.

to second what battypatty said.

i still get cravings. but rarely anymore. friday afternoon was a trigger because this was the 3rd time i've gone to kid rock with my friend. both other times i was lubed up on the way down to nashville.

i never got as drunk as the drama patients i put up with friday night but it was still a trigger.

not strong enough for me to lose it. and i really enjoyed the show. i even enjoyed taking care of the drunks beside me. i made sure they weren't driving. they said they had a hotel. and i checked the couple they were with and analyzed that one guy was sober enough to get them to their rooms.

i was willing to walk some strangers to their hotel to ensure their safety. i'm glad that i'm sober enough now to help out former me's.....lol.

neo....i'm sorry that i don't give back like you do on here amigo. you are a saint. i promise to try and check back in more often and say a silent prayer for the newcomers when i'm here.

thank you for your pm.
