Hi I am aussieblue

Hi I just want to introduce myself.I have been a heavy drinker since my teenage years and lately my health is starting to suffer because of it. I found this site through another forums I belong to and was told it is very helpfull.I have made a decission to stop drinking but I am not finding it smooth sailing I last one or two days and start again . I really need to do this for my health and hope to find the support I need here.I am 50 year old now.

Welcome Aussieblue

Good to have you with us.

I was never about to go much more than 2 or 3 days either.

I found SR to be great for keeping me accountable and for giving me ideas about what else to do or where else to get help.

You'll find a lot of support here too :)

thanks for the welcome,
I am feeling pretty much down on myself today.Yesterday I was so determined to stop and all it took was for my husband to go out with his mates and once alone I gave in. Talk about pathetic . I am feeling determined again today so I start again.

aussieblue, Keep your determination. I spend a lot of time alone, and of course, I think, why not, who cares, and the cycle starts all over. Now, I'm off to watch a cupla serials and try to tune out. Do whatever it takes.

An excellent time do all sorts of things! I find it really helpful to do new things, so I'm not just sitting around thinking about the absence of alcohol. I have so much more time now; it's great to fill it up and keep busy.

Welcome to SR!

Welcome aussieblue. I did the same thing as you - got into my 50's & decided I could no longer go on the way I had. My health was suffering and my life was out of control.

We've fallen back on our crutch for so many years we can't imagine life without it. Yet we know it's no longer doing anything but making us miserable and sick. There's only one way to go - and you've found the right path. I had to learn to live in a new way, without getting numb and hiding from things. It was only hard for me in the beginning. Once I was clearheaded, & started to come out of my fog, I was very excited about my new life. Stay close by & let us know how you're doing.

Welcome Aussieblue! Alot of people struggle with day 3. Day 1-well it is usually hangover day because you know you have set your date so you drink the day before. Day 2 - still a bit anxious-alot of that is hangover leftovers. Day 3-I feel so good why not have a drink! BUT if you can get past that 1st week with each passing day it got easier for me. I hope it works that way for you too. Keep thinking of why you are doing this..it is your health and well being. Alcohol kills both of those off. Hope to hear from you often!

Yo aussie, fancy seeing you here:a122:

I was a naughty girl last night and had a bottle of wine, but I will be back on the wagon tonight.
