Hi, I'm new here
Hi, I'm new here
Hi, I had a meth addiction for several years and have been clean for about 4 years. I have been thinking about not drinking for a few years. Thinking about it didn't do me much good. I got my first DUI this week and have now decided this is the time to quit. I had my last drink on Feb 1. So almost a week with no drinks!! (I know it isn't much but for me not to drink on Super Bowl is very exciting)
I'm not sure what the definition of alcoholic is. I was not a daily drinker. I drink several nights a week since I am a promo model for several alcohol companies. My problem is, "Just one more." For some reason I don't know when enough is enough.
I feel like meth was so hard to quit but it is frowned upon by most people so in that way easier... Alcohol on the other hand is "the norm." People act like I'm crazy for turning down a drink.
Thanks for listening to my rambling. I hope to find new friends, new hobbies, and support system.
As a side note:
I'm also very worried. I am going to see psychiatrist on the 22nd. I believe I have ADHD. Scares me that the meds could possibly cause a relapse. Any support on that topic would be great. And, I have noticed my anxiety and panic attacks have really increased this week. I guess this is just part of the journey....?

Welcome to SR Milly. You will find a lot of support here.
Most people here don't really worry bout labels and / or definitions. If alcohol is causing you problems, it is a problem. If you want to quit you are probably right for thinking about it.
There are other areas of SR that deal with prescription meds and anxiety. Let your psychiatrist know about your concerns.
Good luck.

Hi Milly
welcome
It's not about how often you drink - its about what happens when you do. That DUI is as good a wake up call as any that there's some kind of problem going here, right?
I don't have ADHD but there are many of us here who do - I hope you'll hear from them.
I do know many take the meds and stay sober
And yeah - increased anxiety is a common part of early recovery. Speak to your Dr about it if you're concerned maybe?
Hope to see you round

Hi MM and welcome - Congratulations on 1 week sober! It would be wise to share your history with the psychiatrist...... lots of us used alcohol/drugs in part to self-medicate and need to address those issues to stay sober. For me it was depression, anxiety (also figure I have ADD - two out of three of my children have been diagnosed with it).
It takes time to sort things out, and things seem strange at first without a drink, but it gets better. I found out I actually like my life and social self better without alcohol.
