Whether you or I like it or not, our way is never the only way.

The beauty of SR is that we all share whats worked for us....it gives the newcomer a big array of things to choose from, to try...and eventually find what works.

I'm with Anna...practicing meditation provides an excellent technique/tool for battling cravings...plus it lowers blood pressure

Glad you didn't drink!

(((((Reggie)))))

Congrats on your 68 days!!!!!!

Please remember, that in early recovery, it can be a 'trigger' of something you are not even aware of or it can be LOW BLOOD SUGAR and your body is craving sugar, which it got from the alcohol. Thus when an urge like the one you describe comes on you again, and it very well might, get some carbs into you like pasta, or just grab an individually wrapped hard candy.

I used to keep peppermint and butterscotch available in a candy dish in my home, some in my pocket or purse, some in my glove box, and some in my desk drawer at work. The 'oldtimers' gave me that little hint, and you know what? It worked, the urge would quickly pass. Then after seeing my Dr regularly for a while, I found out that many of us when we first come into recovery are hypoglycemic (opposite of diabetic but same genre) suffering from bouts of 'low blood sugar'. I learned then to keep dry roasted peanuts everywhere (protein) that would also bring up my blood sugar.

Many times our 'cravings' for alcohol are not really for alcohol but for sugar.

I have seen the above help many an alcoholic in early recovery get past that 'wave' that washes over one.

Hope the above helps a bit for the next 'wave'!!!

Love and hugs,
