I knew I was an alcoholic, I would tell my buddies that I came from a long line of proud alcoholics. I could handle it...until I couldn't.

From Happy Guy, to blackouts, to detox in the blink of an eye.

.....Party's over now

The fact that the diagnosis of alcoholism is essentially a self diagnosis is really a bit cruel. As a judgment call, it's attempting to place a whole lot of trust & responsibility on the very mechanism that's renowned for its dishonesty and questionable integrity. (This was my experience at least). I struggled with this recently and wasn't able to get very far with my brain as sole judge. I listened to my gut as well, and when I did it was sort of a no-brainer (pun intended). I am without question an alcoholic.

Thanks for your post. Was a very timely read for me.
