Well, I Have Finally Done it......
after many, many years of alcohol abuse, I have decided to quit altogether. Just sick and tired of being sick and tired, as it is starting to affect me both physically and mentally. Friendships and relationships are beginning to suffer, and it just isn't worth losing everything over. I have quite a bit of anxiety over the decision, but totally feel it is the right decision to make. I have never really gone "public" with anything like this before.
Here's to January 31, 2011 as the beginning of the rest of my life!

Welcome to SR! You will find a lot of support here. Most of us have been where you are, so we understand what that decision you have made really means. It won't always be easy, but it will most definitely be worth it.
Take some time to read the stickies at the top of this forum and read the posts from other people who are working one day at a time to live a sober life. Again, welcome to SR...we are here to support you!

SR's been a huge part of my recovery. It was nice to know there were people who had gone through, or were going through, similar stuff.

This place seems wonderful, I took a chance googling it, as I post on a lot of sports message boards and love the forums.
I know there is no leeway in my decision to stop completely, so I think posting here will make the transition easier......

Welcome BGS - I love your avatar, too! I have a Ragdoll breed cat that I dearly love.....
It's scary to think about quitting for good and feels so strange at first, but hang in there because it gets better each day. If you take it one day at a time only, it's not so overwhelming.
Posting and reading here definitely helps me stay sober. Just acknowledging it is a huge step in the right direction.
Be careful with detox..... (see a doctor if you think you might have problems.)

well, day 2 is off to a better start than day. Feeling a little bit better both physically and mentally, at least enough to go to my office today. Today will be a struggle, but I am up for it.....
