First Post

I stumbled across this forum tonight and have to say I'm glad I did. I quit drinking last week. I've done it before from time to time with the theory that I would just "clean the system out" but always ended up back on the juice. I want to do it for good this time though. One is never enough and 20 is never to many. I have to say after reading some of the posts tonight I know I was in pretty deep. Eight days now and I really am bored out of my mind. It's not as much as the not drinking part that's killing me it's that that is what I know. Weird I know but that is where I sit.

Anyway I've spent several hours now reading and wanted to extend a little gratitude. It's very helpful to know I'm not the lone ranger. Thanks.

Welcome humblepie! This is a great place to come for support and sharing with other people who know a whole lot about what you're going through.

Great job on the eight days. Keep on going, one day at a time

Hey Humble, welcome to SR!

I can totally relate; I'm constantly reading about experiences that are shockingly like my own. It's to the point where I wish SR had a "Me too!" button alongside that "Thanks" icon....

This community has been a pillar for me; I hope it's just as useful for you.

Wow thanks for the quick welcomes. I'm sort of lost right now and it is very helpful to read the posts I have so far. I guess I've felt so alone with this for so long I'm sort of relieved to discover a forum like this. Very relieved.

See—I'd be hitting that "me too!" button right now, because I felt the same thing. Relief I wasn't alone, and relief that so many who had been through the same thing had found a way out.

Boredom was a problem for me at first too. Not surprising, since suddenly I wasn't spending my nights drinking. I try to fill that hole with whatever I can: books, movies, even just going for a walk or a drive. And I spend at least an hour or so here.

It was all boring at first... now it feels nice to me. Peaceful.

At peace..... now that is something I am looking forward to. I can't even begin to wrap my head around what I am going to do since most of the last 20 years has revolved around partying. Time to re-invent I guess. I have managed to create a world in which the only people I've allowed in accepted my life the way it was. Hell of a mess I have to unravel.

Hi and welome humblepie to SR
l'm another who thinks a "me too" button would be well used.
When l first got sober l found to journal was a great way to relieve some of the extra time l had. It also helped me to make sense of my addiction, "stinking thinking" and how much better/more productive my life was becoming one day at a time.
There's so much information in the SR community, stick around

I don't know much about forums yet but I know like this one. The only thing I could say about a "me too" button is I hope, if it existed, it would still allow you folks to write the words you have. The responses help.

Course that's coming from a guy who just signed up yesterday. I may think differently down the road.

Do you have a plan? A way to re-invent yourself... It will give you direction and you won't feel so lost.

No plan. I don't even know how to start to make a plan. I really can't see further than my nose right now.

Welcome Humblepie, SR is a great place to be, I spend hours reading on this board pretty much every day. I'm on day 19 sober, and yes it gets boring. I've tried to keep a routine in the evening and that seems to be helping. Lately if we happen to run out at night it has become a trigger for me for some reason, I guess because it would be easy just to grab a bottle while I'm out. But I have fought the urge... Anyway, we're not alone, it does get easier. Congratulations on your sober time.

Wow you folks are awesome. I'm not at all interested in AA. I hate meetings and am very introspective. I've never heard of SMART or rational recovery. I'll have to look it up.

Welcome HP - Life seemed strange to me the first week or two. I pretty much stuck around this forum and tried not to overwhelm myself. Just took it one day at a time. Slowly, things got better as I discovered myself again. After a while, sober seemed normal and the cravings weren't nearly so bad. It takes time so be patient with yourself.

Congratulations on 8 days - that's wonderful!!
