Talking Young people and all who wish to, please friend me :)

Hey everybody, I just joined up and am here to make some new friends in recovery. I've been trying to get and stay sober since I was 21. I am 25 now. One of the main reasons I kept going out was because I've felt very alone in recovery. I still go to AA, and I have 50 days today . Unfortunately, there don't seem to be many young people in recovery in my area. Relapse has showed me how important sobriety is. I'm still trying to get over the loneliness and feelings of being "different." I have some really great and supportive friends, but they are all normys and they drink socially and for fun on the weekends. They're a great bunch, but none of them can ever really understand what it is like to be an alcoholic. I also just got out of an unhealthy relationship where I was dating a normy woman. I brought lots of hurt along with my drinking, and she paid me back with plenty of hurt as well. It's been a tough decade to say the least. I don't want to whine anymore, but I do want this sober deal!!!! I want it so much! I'm doing a good job at it this time, at least it feels that way. Just having a hard time without a circle of sober friends. I also wish to find a healthy relationship. A person who brings out the best in me. Maybe she's a recovering alcoholic out there! I know this is not a dating site. I don't mean to ask it to be either. I'm here for support, and I would love to help other alcoholics. I feel like I already have started doing that by talking to new people in the chatroom. I'm so grateful to be here! Today is a gift! :day6

Well...welcome HonestD.

I guess I should point out right now I'm not only old, but male....

There's a lot of support here - it's a great recovery community.

Congratulations on your 50 days.

Congrats, I'm 33..wish I would have stopped at 25 but was just getting started really. I can totally see how it would be much harder.
It kind of annoys me how everyone over 30 now thinks they are young, as if getting older is a bad thing but that is another story.

Welcome HonestD - Well, I could be your mama, but I'm behind you all the way. I think it's really hard to stick to a sober lifestyle being as young as you are. There are so many temptations. Glad you have supportive friends, but I agree - no one really gets it but us. You have a great attitude. Congratulations on your new life. Keep talking to us.

I'm 34 and trust me, being 34 and a year sober certainly has it's challenges.

Of course being (fill in the blank) old and being (fill in the blank) years sober certainly has it's challenges too

Try to focus on the similarities as much as possible. Even though I'm 9 years older than you, I have no idea how to do anything social without alcohol involved, but I'm just starting to learn.

I know this isn't your first post on SR, but I wanted to say "welcome" and congrats on your sober time thus far.

Kjell
