Will my own detox effrots be dangerous ?
Dear All,
After becoming part of SR just 2 weeks ago I have reduced my alcohole intake to 2-3 glass of wine around dinner. I used to drink half a bottle of Whsiky every ngiht for around 7 years. Now I wait till 10.30 pm in the ngiht before taking wine . My reduced alocohole intake has shown mild withdrwal symptoms like disturbed sleep and burning eyes through out the day etc.
My question is , after 2 weeks of reduced alcohole intake, if I stop competely from tonight, wil I have severe detox symptoms ? My last report for Liver Enzyme tests were normal ( one month ago ) .
I udnertand that SR is for support and not for medical advice however, I would appricate help and suggestions on what to look out during detox period .

Your detox symptoms can vary and we cannot say if it will be 'safe' or not. Best bet is to see your doctor for help in cutting it out completely. Below are some of our withdrawal stories.

Best to check with a doctor, as the others have said. It might be pretty uneventful, apart from some anxiety and mild discomfort, or cutting out the alcohol completely might bring on some serious problems.
If you do attempt it on your own, be alert for racing heartbeat, any breathing problems, tremors, hallucinations, etc., and if any scary symptoms develop don't wait to call for help (911).

Made it through day 1
Yes I did, I made it through 1st day sober without much discomfort. Could not sleeo till 3 am but slept till 8.30 am and it was much better than I anticipated.
I feel more good about this as it was the 1st time in last 7 years, I did this through my choice and was not forced due to some events/responsibilties. I did have a choice to drink yesterday night and I chose not to drink.
Thank you all at SR for excellent support and I will keep at it .
