Interesting story...

So I was dead set on beating the withdraws by myself, but turned out to not be a good idea. I made it to day 2.5 and things started to get a little sketchy. My kidneys started to hurt, my eyes filled up with blood and and was having trouble breathing. My friends mom (recovering herself) convinced me to go into urgent care. I did so told them the whole story and ended up getting a shot of valium and an RX for a weeks worth of pills to let me down slowly.

That night my friends mom didnt want me to be alone so she asked me to come over, I agreed. I wake up the next am and things are even worse. Very light headed, and just feeling in the dumps even with the meds. I go into the ER, they end up running a bunch of tests...liver enzymes are way up. A 768 and a 348. Got an IV and a banana bag. About 10 minutes after the doc come in a tells me how lucky I am. He says they just brought in a guy having withdraws who wasnt going to make it. Really scared me.

Ended up having an enlarged liver...doc said it should go back to normal with my good behavior. Just thought I would share.

Be safe!

As much as I hate to say it, I was also diagnosed with alcoholic hepatitis. The doctor seems pretty confident that with continued good behavior it will go away.

Wow. I am so happy you are alright. I read this post in a kind of schock. It really surprises me that these things can happen in the body. I don't know why. I guess until you actually read about it, or see it, it is not in your mind.

It is now. Thank you.

Hope you are on your way to a return to health.

Oh I'm so glad that you were able to get medical help and that you'll be able to recover. Thanks so much for posting this, it is an important reminder that detoxing on your own can be life threatening.

Mike, such a close call. It's so good that you are feeling OK and that what was done is not necessarily permanent. Please take care and get well.

Wow! And....the very reason we shouldn't give medical advice here. So glad you went for help.

Please stay and take us along your sober journey!

Mike - your story is a lot like mine. Glad you made it through. Staying clean is a tough thing, but when you have an experience like that, it seems a little easier to not want to repeat.

Your story is one of the reasons why giving medical advice is not advised . No one here can possibly know what another will go through during detox. Whew, I'm so happy to hear you got medical attention when you did. Glad to hear your on the road to recovery!

Best Wishes to You!!
