Unhappy my first step

im so grateful to have found this site. im so scared and i feel so alone..but after reading several posts, i realize im not alone and that there are lots of people going through what i am. and while that in itself makes me cry..its somehow comforting. i starting taking prescription painkillers approx. a yr ago. for no good reason..just for fun.. and now thats where most of my money goes. im a single mother of 3 small children..and can barely pay my bills anymore moreless give them the life they deserve...almost noone knows. they would never expect this from me. ive always been a hard worker and a great mother. and now im not. im a failure..its not fun anymore. i want to quit but im so afraid of being sick...and not being able to get up or work. that sounds so pathetic, i know..i just dont know where to start..im lost..

Hi and Welcome,

You are not a failure. Addiction is a disease, not a character defect.

The best place to start, would be to talk to your dr and get his advice.

Withdrawls from drugs and alcohol are often difficult, but know that you can do it.

Hi Cheri, and welcome!

As you have already figured out, you are not alone. There are many others, myself included, who have gone through the same issue with painkillers.

If you have made a decision to stop then you are well on your way. You will find tons of resources on this site, including 12 step support. I hope you stay around and check it out.

Hi, Cherinoble! Welcome to SR. My DOC was alcohol, and I don't know much about painkillers, but I'd second the suggestion to reach out to your doc.

Mostly though I just want to thank you for posting! The more the merrier. I'm a parent too. It's not easy to get clean, but you can do it—and a much better life awaits you. Really glad you're doing this after just a year. I know it feels terrible, but it could be soooo much worse if you waited. So good for you!

You don't need to worry about where to start. You just did.

I began reading the literature link at: NA.org

There's a lot to get you started and you should stay with this site too.

Welcome to SR Cherinoble

I found this forum over 9 months ago and this place really helped beyond words.

My experience is only with street drugs and booze, ...but contacting a Dr. sounds like a great place to start .

You can do this.
