Hi, I'm new

I stopped using in early September. I moved far from my home town shortly after, so not using isn't as hard as it would be, but being pretty isolated in a new town with no social skills is incredibly hard. I go to meetings a few times a week but don't do anything else. I'm sorry for the quick ramble, but I was hoping being honest here might help me be honest out there too. Not using doesn't suck anymore, its all the free time I have now. I live with my parents (both in recovery and retired) and I can't find a job. I don't know what to do. I'm going nuts, I think.

My name is Ray btw. I'm an addict.

Thanks in advance for any help!

I live in a small town and it gets pretty isolated at times. Have you tried volunteering or attending church? Even if you don't have kids sometimes the local school needs volunteers. At least this would get you out and meeting new people. Good luck to you!

Hi, Ray! Welcome to SR—this group has been a huge source of support for me. I hope it helps you feel less isolated, because you're definitely not alone in your recovery.

Welcome to the family. You'll find a lot of support here. One of my best cats years ago was named Ray.

Welcome Ray. I heard someone at a meeting speak of something his alcohol counselor told him to do....Make a list of 20 things he could do AT HOME aside from using/drinking. He came up with some things that had he not sat down and searched for, he never would have come up with. Give it a try and good luck!

Wow, this is a really cool site. I didn't think it was possible for the power of AA to be felt through the internet. Thanks everyone for the replies. I feel less isolated even though I'm snowed in on the top of a mountain lol.
