Glad you're here and wanting to get sober. Sometimes we just need to ask for help and though it's not easy, it's the beginning of a way out. Alcohol causes depression and anxiety (and lots of physical problems), so getting out of the vicious cycle will help you mentally and emotionally.

It really is worth hanging in there - and we're all here to help each other. So count yourself among friends now!:ghug3

Hi! I was the same way. I would keep the alcohol in my bathroom so my roommate wouldn't find it or know that I was drinking all the time. I was doing that for a good 2 to 3 yeas. I am on day 8 of being sober and it's been hard but worth it.

This place has been amazing for me to just be able to vent and realize that there are people that are going through the same thing that I am going through with the same thoughts, fears and doubts.

Just remember...you aren't alone here. We all are going through it together

I was the same as you a year ago. Been clean almost a year. Its amazing how much alcohol fogs up reality. I was and am a stay at home dad but was alone a lot. I used that as my excuse for drinking. I was 40 pounds overweight, shaky, high anxiety and depressed.....so depressed. But Jan 11 I said no more and joined the class of January 2010 club and what a change its been. You can do it!!!! Don't be scared, were all here to help!

Alcoholism is often a disease of isolation, I mostly drank alone. A famous psychologist once said that the key to sobriety was to replace rum with relationships. This made a lot of sense to me.

Hi Lonlygrl

2 days is AWESOME!! And it will become 4 days, then 7, then 30..... You can do it! We all start from a really awful, low place, and with a bit of time and effort, your self-confidence and self-respect will grow and you will start feeling good - no, GREAT - about yourself again.

We're here, we understand what you're going through. Stay in touch!
