Gerry Rafferty 1947-2011

One of my favorite musicians has lost his final battle with the bottle.
His body simply gave up...RIP.

Baker Street singer Gerry Rafferty dead at 63 | The Australian

The time has come to trust that guiding light
And leavin' all the rest behind
We'll take the road that leads down to the waterside
And set out on the journey
Find a ship to take us on the way

Sad news, I was just watching the vids on Youtube for Baker Street and Right Down the Line. I didn't know he was an alcoholic, but listening to Baker Street and reading the lyrics it sounds like alot of stories on this board.

Thank you for sharing. I was not familiar with him until I read your post. What a beautiful song and a talented man.

Very sad indeed.

Of all the albums & CD's I have, 'City To City" is far & away my favorite of all time. I've taken it with me on the road for the last 40+ years. The world got a little colder today. Rest In Peace Gerry....Godspeed.

Oh no, Dee. I hadn't heard, & didn't know he suffered with addiction. What a terrible waste. No more earthly pain for him.

In 1978 you couldn't turn on the radio without hearing Baker Street.

I remember in high school being in the science lab. The teacher played the radio and I distinctly remember hearing Stuck in the Middle almost every day. He has long been a favorite of mine. I loved his voice and he was a master at song writing. RIP, sweet Gerry.

Thanks for letting us know Dee.

"Baker Street" was always a favourite. Used to remind me of my dad. Sad day.

Trying to make some sense of it all
But I can see that it makes no sense at all
Is it cool to go to sleep on the floor
Well I don't think I can take anymore
Clowns to the left of me, jokers to the right
Here I am, stuck in the middle with you.

RIP...what a tragic loss...

I too grew up listening/humming to his songs...and didn't know he had these issues.

when i read the news this AM (just the internet headlines) I was surprised he died so "young".

It is young Fandy - yes! I just listened to "Right Down The Line" and about halfway through just started to cry. So many memories.

ArtDeco454 - I will go buy "City To City" - never owned it.
