Update:

A little over two weeks after quitting the pain killers and I feel so much better. I am not drinking at all. I am in a lot of pain but I prefer being in pain rather than taking the pain killers and then drinking. I haven't even wanted a drink! Well, I had a nice meal, wanted a glass of wine but thought no thanks. I will trust myself later in the year if everything still goes well.
