Alcohol Withdrawals
I stopped drinking three days ago after a two years of drinking six to 12 beers a night. I am concerned about withdrawals and what to expect. I am experiencing feelings of what I think may be withdrawals, however by boyfriend says that it is probably psychosomatic or "whining". Details of my symptoms are I am having stomach aches, back pain and a general feeling of malaise. Also, my chest feels congested. This probably has nothing to do with withdrawals, but it is kind of scaring me, as it just happened with this rest of the symptoms.
I would appreciate any advice on this and what I can do about the way I am feeling. I am serious about quitting drinking I know that it has done nothing more than worsen problems I was trying get away from.
Thanks in advance.

Welcome jacee. Withdrawals are very serious and can vary depending on the person. Please see a Dr. about symptoms. Please talk to a Dr. about how to safely detox. Your boyfriend is wrong to dismiss your concerns.
Good luck on your desire to quit drinking. Read around SR. Keep us posted.

Right, this is a matter for you and a doctor. Potential withdrawal can be a serious thing and you don't want advice from people pretending to be medical professionals. As such SR also has a strict rule about giving medical advice here.
.
But indeed, your boyfriend is acting foolish. Maybe you are fine but there's no sense in gambling with withdrawal if all it takes is a trip to a clinic to be sure.
Welcome to SR, Jacee. Congrats on deciding to quit, if you need any support with that we're glad to have you.

Agree that professional advice is the way to go. To share my own story, after a particularily terrible binge I would ease off and end up feeling 'fluey' for a few days.
Even go to a drug store and check your BP.

Welcome to the family! I must agree: get medical attention or at least talk to a doctor to describe how you're feeling. Withdrawals can be anything from annoying to life threatening so best to be safe.

Yeah, the withdrawals are different for everyone. I had one stint at quitting where I really didn't experience many negative effects; another time I was lying in bed with covers over me, cold but sweating profusely, shaking, having pains in my body, and hearing some marching band play a nice little tune (there was no marching band in my bedroom).
That was scary.
For sure, a doctor should be consulted if at all possible. Alcohol withdrawal can be dangerous, sometimes even deadly.
To jaycee, carynj and understated, Welcome! I'm glad you're all here.
