A different person.

When I read over threads in my blog during sober times, it looks like a person other than myself who wrote it. My depression is quite bad at the moment. I still havent turned the good corner yet. I will though. Until then, I am in a strange place

least 01-01-2011 07:25 AM

It may be a 'strange place' but as long as you're sober it's a 'safe place'.:) Happy new year to you and may it be your best year ever.

SSIL75 01-01-2011 07:32 AM

You're still drinking, E?

eddie73 01-01-2011 07:45 AM

God no 75, I am not! I think that as a person who gets depressed, I cant do it ever again. I was hoping to have improved a lot in the last week. It doesnt work on my terms though. I gotta just batten down the hatches for a few more days. Dont feel like doing anything except stayin in bed. I had to work on the 26th after a week on it. The horror is an understatement

SSIL75 01-01-2011 07:49 AM

OK good. It does take a while to get back. Have you tried medication for your depression? I took an SRRI in my teens. As an adult I've had good success with a fish oil/exercise/sunlight combo. Of course, facing into any of those when you're in the depths is tough, I know.

Sorry to hear this, Eddie. Depression is sinister. I've had many days of just lying in bed.

Do you feel you've at least got adequate treatment at hand? I know a bad bout of depression can sometimes push the limits of all medication and therapy, but I've found that trying to do therapeutic stuff usually makes things a little less worse.

Just remember it wont last forever and accept that it's happening.

eddie73 01-01-2011 08:04 AM

Thats decent advice guys. I am on a med. It does work a bit but only if I am sober, surprise surprise!

As for the thought that it will pass, thats a gem of a thought. It makes me feel a lot stronger. But I aint leaving the house to day. I had to work all week and am gonna laze my way thru the evening.

I would prefer to be in a more motivated place, but sometimes its better to just keep things on an even keel.

Im glad I posted this thread. It has perked me up a bit!

You have a lot of friends here Eddie, hang in there, OK

artsoul 01-01-2011 09:39 AM

I had to give myself lots of those lazy days, especially the first 3 months. I'm discovering that it's OK to feel "not OK" all the time. Another thing I did (which probably isn't the healthiest in the world, but it helped) was to order some really good carry-out for dinner - it gave me something to look forward to at the end of the day.

Hang in there!

Are you a religious person at all?

I'm an off the wall, hell raiser, who's been a bad boy too many times in life, BUT... not a bad person.

My faith got me through some major depression. Just an idea.

eddie73 01-01-2011 11:52 AM

Id like to think there is a loving creator. I dont know though

Dee74 01-01-2011 12:58 PM

Hi Eddie

I dunno how long it's been since you saw your Dr, but maybe it's something else to try?

Hope you feel better soon :)

Just checking in Eddie, how are you and what's going on?

eddie73 01-01-2011 02:19 PM

yeah still here. Thankful to get this week over with. I dunno Dee, a doctor can only do and advise so much. Ultimately it is up to u. Am not goin to mess around with dosages etc as Im on a strong one as it is. Anyway, thanks for the support

Kmber2010 01-01-2011 02:35 PM

Eddie, I'm glad your posting and you are maintaining your sobriety. What I found to be helpful in my case for underlying issues was counseling. It is another option where you can talk things out.

Keep sharing and you know we are here for you. You will get this next piece and while you do so staying sober is the key!

I don't know, maybe they can help you more than you think. If your strong dose isn't working, maybe you need to try another medication. Or your doctor could recommend counseling. CBT is pretty effective for depression. Like all things, people with depression generally do better when they use all the help they have rather than relying purely on themselves.

I certainly hope you won't beat yourself up for not getting better.

Thanks for checking back Eddie, you do have a lot of support here.

MsCooterBrown 01-01-2011 03:28 PM
