I'm new here, but this thread seems appropriate for my first post. I do believe this is the first New Years day in my entire adult life that I'm not hungover.....and I must say, it's AWESOME!
Coming here yesterday and reading some of the posts is exactly what swayed my decision to give it up right then.......no blow out on new years eve. And I'm so glad I did! I think I'm gonna love it here!

Awesome! Welcome Keithurbanfan!
I woke up really late today with a massive headache. Already took an Aleve. I think it's because I stayed up until 3am (had to wish my west coast girlfriend happy new year) and because I dehydrated myself dancing and eating salty foods. Headaches are almost pleasant when they aren't hangovers.
Actually, no... it's still a headache. But I am glad it's not a hangover.

So, random here, but ODAAT reminded me... when I was in relapse and would come here drunk and self pitying to read posts, my drunk self was so sure ODAAT must've been some really awesome member here, he came up in posts a LOT! hahaha Took NO time sober to see what that stood for. duh!

I could not have asked for a more perfect way to ring in my New Year. A meeting (even had to bring my THREE kids along but luckily there is a playroom there and the kids were good) light appetizers with my kids (dh and I seperated 4 months ago...when I quit drinking), a movie & games. Only one kid made it till midnight, we kissed and wished each other a Happy New Year and I tucked him in into bed and fell sound asleep. I don't think I have been sober on a NYE since I was a teenager. Feels Great!
Well, I woke up and was still on the top side of the dirt....and I didn't find my name in the obits.
In the immortal words of Papillon (from the Steve McQueen movie)....
"I'm still here you bast%*ds!"

Going to bed sober, waking up sober, making coffee and not feeling like puking in it... hahaha... There's no going back to that stupidity.
I do not romance the memories of alcohol. The reality was a stuffy, cloudy head, feeling like I needed to vomit, loss of appetite, drinking water but worrying if I drank too much I might vomit.
The truth shall set you free! These are the memories to record when your drink for replay when you quit. Then you will love and protect your sobriety more.
