When I drank every day was the same, gray and lifeless. But in sobriety, even though today is tough, tomorrow can be a fantastic day. As long as I have my sobriety I have hope!

Talking

Wow!

It has been fantastic reading everyone's replies. And each one is different and personal, but still I can relate to them all.

Thank you, thank you. I know I will come back and read these again and again.

When I was sober Oct. 09-July 10 it was improved health, not being sick as much, and knowing that I could live my life exactly how I wanted. I could drop everything and stay home, or not pick up the phone, or not degrade myself for money. My life was so much simpler. I hope to be ....no...I will be there again soon.

I think the one thing I cherish the most is my honesty level... it has brought back my husband's trust ... and my trust in myself. The ability to not have to lie about all the wrong I have done against him or anyone else... because I do remember what I did last night!

No depression. I LOVE waking up and feeling optimistic. Even colors are brighter.

I haven't raised my voice even once since I stopped drinking. That's amazing because I used to be quite critical and argumentative when drunk. Saying the Just For Today prayer which was given to me on a card when I joined AA helps, especially these phrases: "I will not show anyone that my feelings are hurt; they may be hurt, but today I will not show it.... (I will) not find fault with anything and not try to improve or regulate anybody except myself."

Just today...I was marvelling at how steady my hand is when I paint....I no longer have to blend my mistakes away....I can put the paint where I want it the first time

No more embarrasing shaking, with people asking that (once insulting) question... "Why are you shaking?"

I was once a photographer by profession. I only now realized why I shyed away from shooting. Dang...

What I love most about sobriety? That's an easy one! Waking up sober and not hating myself for being a drunken hot mess the night before! Nothing like having self-respect!!!!

Hello, I just became a G'pa again !! My fourth Grand son !! And I'm able to be a part of it !! Even though I'd been sober a while my relationship with my older daughter was still in the tank when she had her first two. I can't tell you how bad it hurt to be excluded from that. Between her 2nd and 3rd son we got everything fixed. Now my younger girl just had her first. After 2 girls having 4 grand sons is a BLAST !! Every bit of hell I went through to get sober was worth it just for this !! Especially because I'm known as the FUN G'pa I have too many blessings now to list them all here, but being an active part of my grand sons lives is darn near the top.

Ron
