Britta - welcome to SR. You will find lots of encouragement and support here.

Sounds like you've been dealt quite a hand to deal with. I can't imagine what your childhood must have been like.

BUT - you are definitely not too old to start a new future! You and your son both deserve it.

Keep checking in/ reading/posting at SR. Day or night somebody is always here.

4K - stay the course. You can do it. Together, we can all do it!

Britta: This is one website/group/friendship where too much information is only a good thing keep talking and keep posting ----- it is the best therapy and resolve.

Thanx!! I'm not used to being able to tell my story.... I try to get out info in spurts as I can. I have been told that "people don't want to hear scary **** like that" I think it is the root of my addiction and I need to get it out. I don't know.... I could be wrong. thanksYou all are too kind!! I get the warm fuzzies!!

See the importance of his statement, "no thanks, I gave up drinking" has such huge relevance to us all. Although (spoiler alert for any person who has been living under a rock and has not yet seen this movie) he was innocent of all his crimes - part of the reason he was convicted is because he "was" drinking the night of his wife's murder. This is how the courts convicted him.

For him to simply give up drinking, shows a solace and peace he has found - even though he was wrongfully convicted - he KNEW that drinking was part of the cause.. He found his peace, and it no longer involved alcohol.

Welcome, welcome! I am so glad you have decided to quit.
I also decided to quit because of my daughter, hence my SR name "thisisforellie." But after being sober for a bit I realized that quitting for my daughter also allowed me to quit for myself too. I never had enough self-compassion to quit for myself before, and my daughter gave me the chance. It is a double blessing then. The best way to be a great parent to her is to be the best person I can be. And guess what -- that is good for me too!
