Britta - welcome to SR. You will find lots of encouragement and support here.
Sounds like you've been dealt quite a hand to deal with. I can't imagine what your childhood must have been like.
BUT - you are definitely not too old to start a new future! You and your son both deserve it.
Keep checking in/ reading/posting at SR. Day or night somebody is always here.
4K - stay the course. You can do it. Together, we can all do it!

Thanx for your kindness!! All of these posts really help me a lot!!
Thanx!! I'm not used to being able to tell my story.... I try to get out info in spurts as I can. I have been told that "people don't want to hear scary **** like that" I think it is the root of my addiction and I need to get it out. I don't know.... I could be wrong. thanksYou all are too kind!! I get the warm fuzzies!!
Joe..I have the movie Shawshank and had forgotten that scene. It means so much more to me than it would have the first time I watched it. Thanks for sharing that..this is ..true freedom!!
For him to simply give up drinking, shows a solace and peace he has found - even though he was wrongfully convicted - he KNEW that drinking was part of the cause.. He found his peace, and it no longer involved alcohol.
Welcome, welcome! I am so glad you have decided to quit.
I also decided to quit because of my daughter, hence my SR name "thisisforellie." But after being sober for a bit I realized that quitting for my daughter also allowed me to quit for myself too. I never had enough self-compassion to quit for myself before, and my daughter gave me the chance. It is a double blessing then. The best way to be a great parent to her is to be the best person I can be. And guess what -- that is good for me too!
